Yaşar University Women and Family Studies Application and Research Center
Yaşar University Women and Family Studies Application and Research Center (YÜKAM) was established on December 7, 2020, with the aim of addressing issues arising from gender inequality, raising awareness, and fostering collaborations through projects and scientific activities. Since its establishment, YÜKAM has strengthened Yaşar University’s position in advocating for gender equality.
Young, dynamic, and highly motivated, YÜKAM has implemented the “Yaşar University Gender-Based Discrimination, Violence, and Sexual Harassment Prevention Policy Document” and the “Gender-Based Discrimination, Violence, and Sexual Harassment Prevention Directive.” It also led the establishment of the Gender-Based Discrimination, Violence, and Sexual Harassment Prevention Support Unit (YASTÖB).
Since its founding, YÜKAM has partnered with numerous civil society organizations, public institutions, the private sector, and academia both locally and globally. It has participated in the YÖK Women in Academia Studies, the Provincial Coordination Monitoring and Evaluation Board under the Governorate on Combating Violence Against Women, and local municipalities’ gender studies and Local Equality Action Plans. Internationally, it has engaged in projects with the U.S. Embassy and the SPARK civil society organization and organized regional projects and training activities with companies and NGOs. Through joint initiatives with the United Nations, the “Orange Summit Events,” student awareness projects on gender, and gender and discrimination courses, YÜKAM contributes to the development of student values at Yaşar University.
As part of the European Union Horizon 2020 CALIPER (Research and Innovation for Gender Equality) Project, YÜKAM organizes internal training and provides support to create a gender-sensitive working environment at Yaşar University.
With its efforts, Yaşar University Women and Family Studies Application and Research Center (YÜKAM) is advancing steadily toward its goals of raising gender awareness regionally and globally, contributing to making our city, İzmir, and our country more equitable and inclusive.
